Copenhagen - Go into the town centre, head for the main canal (for directions, the majority of the locals all speak good English or ask for a map from the Excursion staff on board) and take a waterway tour - excellent way of seeing the local sights (including the Little Mermaid, we couldnt believe how small she is). Helsinki - Good shops, bars and vibrant market on the waterfront. Again it is well worth taking one of the harbour view boat trips on offer here. Warnemunde - Within easy walking distance of berth. DONT take the harbour boat trip, its awful (unless you like seeing decaying, rusty Eastern European warships from the Cold War, plus the commentary is, naturally, in German!). Really nice market, shops and restaurants along the canal bank but when you cross the bridge into town, carry on straight ahead and there are some great shops/churches/restaurants/bars in the backstreets. You can also catch a train to Berlin from here. St Petersburg - take the ship organized excursions only, dont bother getting an individual visa - its definitely not a place to 'wander around' on your own. Euros and US dollars are gleefully accepted (make sure the notes are clean and not torn). The Vodka is a must, as is a visit to Peterhof Palace and the Ballet. Tallin - Walk up the hill to see the cathedral and take a slow stroll back down via the little side streets to the main square (flat shoes are recommended due to the cobblestones, beautiful city though). We had to get a shuttle bus to the centre of most of the towns but your Shipping Line Excursion department will advise you of how far it is from where the ship is berthed, Enjoy!
Hi, I am booked on the same cruise. Having looked into it, I think the only ones that may be a problem are:- Berlin is a train ride from Warnemunde and St P may be better with a tour otherwise you have to get your own visa which, as I found out, is quite expensive.
Enjoy your trip.
Hi Glad to hear your take on the ports in question. exactly the conclution i had come to so much better to wander and do own thing and less money too. the baltic cruise other than the two ports mentioned really is all inclusive.
