Hi, if you want to take in the Caribbean and New York then the ideal itinerary is to go to the Caribbean from New York. There are several operators that do this. If you prefer things to be less formal then i would highly recommend NCL there are no set dining times and at least 111 diferent eateries to choose from. The onboard entertainment is absolutely stunning as are their ships. Will make for good value too as return flights from UK to New york are much cheaper than to Miami or FLL. Book flights seperate from cruise and you will get a good deal, make sure you arrive minimum of 1 day ahead of the cruise to account for any possible delays. Chri.
My partner and I are only a few days home from Ocean Village 2 its like a really nice 4star Hotel. Staff and Crew Fantastc, friendly Informative Entertainment - WoW -Sugar and Spice 1st wk, Coral and Calypso 2nd wk. Casual please yourself cruising, so relaxed, you can dress up, but you dont have to, at any time, or dress casually which is more relaxing most of the time anyhow. Great for first time cruising, unless you like dress codes for certain occassions, choose Costa a Mix of Casual and Evening Dress, which is lovely too and surroudings and decor Muuuuuch more Luxurious. Whichever you choose you'll arrive home feeling like a sta.
Suggest the Explorer of the Seas out of NY down to Caribbean would be just perfect. RCI 09 schedules out in the newxt few weeks. Otherwise there is NCL that does this route too.
I agree with Kelly for an informal cruise in the Caribbean go with Ocean Village you can not beat it. However as you want to go to New York I would also suggest Princess Cruises, we went on Emerald Princess last year and thought she was a great ship. Most 2009 brochures come out in the Spring so I would wait to see what there is then.
Island cruises are doing caribbean no.
I wouldnt pick ocean village. its far too casual and not what cruising is about. On costa you will have to endure all the announcements in 2 or 3 languages. Pick princess or royal caribbean. My favourite is Fred Olsen but they dont have the facilities that the other ships have. If you like plenty of outdoor things and loads of modern facilities I would go for royal caribean or princess or if you want something a bit more casual but not too much go for NC.
Only one choice for me, Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas (or which ever ship they have on this route in 09). You have the choice of a 9 day or 12 day cruise to the caribbean. You will get very good weather in New York in September. Do the cruise 1st (you can fly in and join the ship on the same day) and then New York 2nd - leave the ship at 8-9am, check into a midtown Manhatten hotel, drop the bags and off you go to explore New York;
Enjoy it!! We are doing a similar trip this September but going to Bermuda.
