We've just been on the QE2 and $11 per person per day were added to the onboard account to cover all gratuities. There is also a service charge added to any drinks orders. The only staff not covered by this were in the casino. We also gave our cabin steward and MaƮtre d' some cash at the end, and I left my stash of Rooibos tea for the South Africans on board, as they have a great deal of difficulty finding it! How to make a South African happy...

You are in for a real treat as the QM2 is without doubt the most elegant liner there is and the service is wonderful. As for tipping this is all taken care of by meas of a daily amount that is addedto your end of trip bill. This makes it really easy and given the service you get you will not feel it is to much or an imposition. The system is good as all the staff on the ship share the tips - not just those in jobs that are front of hopuse.Naturally if you want to pay an extra tip to anyone who has been exceptional this is at your discretion but you are under no pressure to do this. Please do not listen to people who try and take exception to this system - they are usually the ones that wouldn't tip anyway and try and justify their meanness!! Have a wonderful time and do try the Commandors Club bar at the front of the ship on deck ten and the glass lifts which take you up there from deck seven ( not everyone finds these lifts but they give you a great view) .
