Find Your Cruise
Why 'apart from Rome and Pisa'? Both are very easy to do by yourself. Rome you catch free shuttle bus to the port gate (don't pay for the RCI transfer bus), walk along the sea front for 10 mins to the station. Buy a ticket for €9 which covers you for train into Rome and the metro. Pisa, I believe you have to buy the shuttle ticket to town as the port is so big, then the No 1 bus to the station: note, buy bus ticket from news-stand right where you are dropped off(round trip). Trains run direct to Livorno and take around 20 mins. Everywhere else you can DIY too with great ease. I suggest you read the ports of call section on boards dot cruise critic dot com for all info. Also have you joined the roll call yet on the same site so perhaps you can meet with people to share private trips with?
Hi. Could you tell me what you mean by the Roll Call? I have seen it written on a few comments & I don't know what it means relating to a Cruise. Thanks very much!
Just to advise you that when using the trains in Italy you MUST validate your tickets before getting onto the train otherwise you could be in for a hefty fine (and they don't accept ignorance of the requirement as an excuse). To validate your tickets insert them into the yellow machines found on each platform. This gives them a date and time stamp. Pisa station is in the south of the city and the tower is in the north half. It's about a 30 minute walk (basically going straight ahead) or there are plenty of buses.
Thank you to both Bradley and Aldrich for taking the time to answer my question. Much appreciated.
The reason i wrote 'apart from Rome and Pissa' is, we have a son who needs a wheelcahir for any walkabouts, and wheelchairs and trains are not the best of friends. Have been to the web site suggested, and we are now comfortable with what we can achieve. Thanks again. x x x.
