I would aim to be at the docks between eleven and midday as this should allow for any delay and boarding for a four departure should start about then. Your address, Avon, seems to say that your journey might be shorter than the estimated 6 hours but it may be different to that and if so excuse my presumption. If however you are coming in from the County of Avon or indeed from the westerly side of Southampton you might be well advised to come into the Southampton docks area via the A36 or via Cadnam because the Major Roadworks in both directions on the M27 between Junctions 3 and 4 for carriageway widening with 50 MPH speed restrictions and narrow lanes have at times been causing lengthy delays. This can also apply to traffic approaching from the M3 when it is advisable to follow the M27 Portsmouth signs at Eastleigh and when you have joined the M27 take the next exit, junction 5, and come into Southampton that way. My advise is to listen to the traffic news all the time and have a good navigator with you. ... Neil (currently there is no reported end to these works).
Thanks i live in avon somerset but am traveling down from newcastle.
Rather than have a rush and, of course, if you can I would suggest travelling down as early as possible on Friday afternoon and using one of the less expensive travel lodges and relax. Hope that works out for you. Neil.
Aim to get there by 11.30 - boarding ususally starts shortly after this time, despite what it may say in your documents.
