Costa Fortuna

OVERVIEW: Costa Fortuna– now over 10 years old - is built to impress trendy city-dwellers at every turn, and the ship absorbs passengers quite well, with a good passenger space ratio. While a variety of nationalities are carried, most of the passengers are Italian, so the ship is lively but quite no

My wife and I have just returned from a 9 night cruise on the Costa Fortuna.

We have travelled with Costa 3 times previously and had been on the Concordia just a couple of months before it went down with the same Captain who took her down, so naturally we were apprehensive about going with Costa again.
Also Costa have in the past been rightly criticised for the way they handle themselves and their cruise experience where us Brits come in but I have to say this cruise was a return to form for Costa and was arguably one of the best cruises we have taken.

The ship itself is typical Costa Italian style with bright colours and whilst there is a little wear and tear showing the ship was kept spotlessly clean.

The service was excellent throughout the bars and restaurants and genuinely nothing was too much trouble, in particular our Rest waiter Agus, Cabin Steward Carmella and Butler Joseph but we found the Cigar and Cognac Bar fantastic after dinner and Nigel the Bartender there was exceptional.

The All Inc package which Costa do for 17 Euro's per day (if bought in advance) was amazing value and includes virtually all of the drinks in the bar lists, it was only mainly Champagne and Champagne cocktails which you could not have but anything you cannot have is labelled with a Red Asterix, there nothing better than not having to worry about your Bar Bill and signing for drinks which cost £0.00

Entertainment was OK, good Acrobats but we had seen them before, this area for me would be one which Costa could invest more into and whilst in my opinion Entertainment as a whole seems to be getting poorer not better on Cruise Ships, Costa still have a bit to do.

Food was very good, main dining room food was as good as Royal Caribbean we went on in June, 7 courses was the norm every night but small portions, so if you only wanted 3 courses then they were more than happy to give you larger portions upon request.
Waiters entertain more than once a cruise and the whole of the passengers all joined in and it was great when you can see 700 passengers all dancing around the aisles, it all helps make the cruise
Speciality Rest likewise with the food, Buffet Food good and apart from a sea day when it rained there were no ''Bunfights''

Announcements were made with English usually first or second which made a nice change and there seemed to be a positive attitude about putting British Guests higher up the ladder which again really helped make our cruise.

Finally hats off to the Captain, he made efforts to do the rounds on the 2 formal nights and also appearing in the restaurant twice to give us all toasts on top of this and you could also find a lot of the senior officers and executive chef out on decks talking to passengers.

All in all a wonderful relaxing cruise, done in Italian Style with great service and we will definitely be back on Costa, I know they are not everyone's cup of tea but for us, we like cruising with different nationalities and even when you take the basics of cruising which are common to all cruise lines Costa excelled themselves this time.
